Mercure Hotel Hamburg Mitte

The bathroom was efficient, and the shower had good pressure and temperature. I didn’t try breakfast. The room felt cramped for over 175 EUR a night, and it seemed the bed had been replaced with a smaller one. One bedside table was out of reach, while the oddly shaped surfaces were hard to use, including a small curved desk partly covered by the kettle shelf. The pillows felt more like small throw pillows than proper bed pillows. We asked for other or extra ones, but waited over 90 minutes and had to remind staff before they arrived. Street-facing rooms get some traffic noise, and hallway sounds carried into all the rooms because the doors seemed paper-thin. The mirror placement and lack of a night light meant the room lighting always hit the bed.

The staff were fabulous, from the concierge and bar team to breakfast. Everyone was helpful and friendly. Getting here from the train station was difficult, though, and the bathroom was dated with a leaking shower, which is why I’ve rated it lower.

I love the hotel, its location and how clean it is. The one problem is the air conditioning: it switches off when the outside temperature drops below 20 degrees. It can still feel warm and uncomfortable indoors when it’s 19 outside, and the fans the hotel offers don’t help much.

Honestly, I was disappointed. We were there for a conference and were charged a higher rate. The rooms were below average, and they didn’t even provide a bottle of water each day. Breakfast cost 22 euros, yet the coffee was surprisingly poor.
