Motel One Hamburg am Michel

The bathroom sink drained painfully slowly, and the internet stopped working as soon as I left the lobby. I also couldn't watch movies in English because everything on TV was in German. The hotel itself was nice, but at that price I expected more of the basics. I ended up leaving a day early because the stay had become unbearable.

The location worked well, but the room felt like a prison cell and had no view. The receptionist wasn't friendly, either. If you're booking online, bring your own water bottle, since they don't provide anything.

The room looked very new, but the renovation smell was strong enough to trigger an allergic reaction for me the next morning. For that reason, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone with allergies, and families with children should avoid it too. The breakfast had little variety. Some boiled eggs were cracked and had feathers and chicken droppings on them. I wondered whether the eggs themselves were contaminated. The location was the one real plus, around a 15-minute walk from the river.

The breakfast and lounge were nice, and there is underground parking, though it fills up. During our visit, the only lift was out of order. Our rooms also weren't cleaned for two days. When I asked the cleaners about it, they said it wasn't their place to complain. Wi-Fi worked reasonably in the lounge but was quite bad in the rooms.
