Motel One Hamburg-Fleetinsel

The room was tiny, and the duvet was narrower than the bed, which made it a little uncomfortable. The lobby and breakfast area looked luxurious, but the rooms were very minimal, with no kettle, fridge, tea bags, or conditioner. There was a hairdryer, though you have to keep its button pressed the whole time, which isn't practical if you have hand or finger problems. The key card controls the power, and everything cuts off as soon as you take it out. I understand the energy-saving idea, but it felt inconvenient and restrictive. There were no outlets by the desk for working. The TV showed a fireplace picture and came back on when I returned even after I had turned it off. One morning it turned on by itself, presumably from a timer, and I couldn't figure out how to disable it. The bathroom design also makes it easy for water to spill onto the floor if you're not careful in the shower. Breakfast was quiet since I went very early, but the vegetable options were extremely limited and the selection was unremarkable. The location was convenient, with several supermarkets within walking distance. The central station is walkable too, though not especially close, and I appreciated getting a generously sized bottle of water at check-in. The key card says “like the price, love the design.” Design should include usability and the whole experience, not just looks.

I found the hotel overpriced for what you get. The location felt dark, remote, and dangerous at night, with nowhere around to eat or drink. Staff at the front desk were very rude, and online check-in didn't work, so I had to wait in a long line. The room was extremely small, with only about 20cm between the bed and the wall with the TV. If you're not small, you can't get to the other side of the bed. There was no room for clothes, no fridge or kettle, and the bathroom was tiny.

Motel One is becoming one of my favorite hotel chains in Germany. The service is good, the location is great, and the bar is a nice place to unwind after a busy day. I'll be back.

Everything was spotless and just right, and breakfast was delicious. The hotel is right in the city center, so it's easy to get around to other places.
