Hotel Europäischer Hof Hamburg

The location just steps from the main station was very convenient. Breakfast was huge, with lots of choices, and good, though not the best I've had. The bar looked kind of cool, and piano music played really late. I didn't plan to go in, but came back that night from somewhere else and ended up having a drink just to enjoy the piano. There's also a nice hotel with a really nice bar a few doors down. As for my stay, this was a standard business hotel without character or anything unique. It wasn't crappy, but it wasn't beautiful either. I booked just a couple of hours before arriving, at a peak time when the city had almost no rooms left. I paid €431 for a very small, single-bed room that smelled of cigarettes at the back of the building. I didn't think the room should have cost more than $40, though I knew that when I booked it, and I'm thankful I had a roof over my head. The staff were professional, but not memorable. When I complained about the price and asked for a discount, they couldn't respond in a nice way and just changed the subject.

Good value overall. The breakfast was included and very good, and the gym was small but nice. I didn't go to the pool. The hotel is right by the train station, and I liked the retro, 80s-looking lounge and bar. My room was small, and the sink flooded the bathroom. There was no AC.

The breakfast was really tasty, and the front desk staff were great. Our room was clean and quiet, right by the train station. The room key also works for public transport, which made getting around very convenient. I’d definitely recommend it.

Agoda.com charged me the full 400 Euros, and the hotel never answered when I asked whether they had received any of that money or whether Agoda had simply left me in the lurch. The stay had been booked well ahead, but the hotel cancelled a month before because of renovations. I can’t understand why they didn’t know about that sooner. A disappointing, expensive experience with no positive outcome for me.
