The only snag for me was football: if you're a FC Bayern fan, you might not get a handshake from the owner's husband, who's a Nuremberg supporter. Still, that shouldn't put a damper on the holiday. The rental was by far the best we've ever booked, clean and up to date, and dogs are welcome. The owner herself is the person to ask if you need anything, and she helps however she can. I'd book again in a heartbeat. Otherwise, excellent.

We had a newly renovated, roomy apartment with two bedrooms, a pair of bathrooms, and a balcony. It was equipped so well that we didn't find anything missing. The landlords were kind and helpful, easily worth more than five stars.

The Altmühlsee is about a 15-minute bike ride away, with a slight uphill stretch on the way back that was easy enough on an e-bike. We could lock our bikes away safely in the garage. For meals outside, there's a terrace or a balcony, depending on the time of day, and the apartment has enough room for four adults, each with their own shower and toilet. A small village shop five minutes away on foot sells fresh breakfast rolls. We found the holiday apartment fantastic and fully furnished, with nothing to complain about. We'd definitely try to stay again if we return to the Altmühl Valley.

A very good place to stay for two or four people.
