Astoria Hotel Heimbach

The place smells of sewage as soon as you walk in. It’s badly outdated and far too expensive, with worn-out everything, poor sheets and bad beds. It’s a horrible hotel. I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes bankrupt soon, and it should.

Mr Willam was a considerate, lovely host. We arrived around 10 at night, and he waited so we could check in. He even let us warm our food in his kitchen and gave us tea on the house. The rooms are a little small, but cozy and clean. It’s about 700 meters from the station and close to the nature park entrance. Breakfast was simple and good. I’d definitely come back and recommend staying here.

William is so polite and considerate at reception, and he makes you feel at home. The rooms are clean and well maintained, and breakfast is simple but good. It’s not a fancy hotel, just a great place to stay if you want to enjoy the area, right beside a castle.

We booked through the Agoda app, but arrived to find a locked door. We couldn’t reach anyone at the hotel, and Agoda couldn’t get hold of them either. It was getting dark, freezing cold, and my wife, our 8-year-old daughter, and I had nowhere to go. The booking money had already been taken from my card. I don’t know if this was some kind of scam, but they’ll never see me there again. After an hour on the phone with Agoda customer service, I got a cancellation and refund guarantee. Not how you want a holiday to begin.
