Hotel Rickmers Insulaner

The garden and location are good, with a nice harbor view from the room. Breakfast is good too, though the restaurant isn't a bargain and the food is just okay. The rooms are rather small. The way to the sauna and fitness room is usually messy and crowded with things, since everyone leaves their luggage there before the boat leaves. The fitness room has only four or five items, and it's packed with random sofas and chairs, as if people are supposed to chat while someone else works out. I don't see the point of having a room like that, though maybe they need it for a four-star rating. One receptionist was very friendly, the other less so. When I asked when the broken lift might be fixed, she just said, “I cannot give you any guarantees.” There are ways to explain that more helpfully, like saying someone would come look at it that day. A blunt, distant answer like that doesn't suit someone working in service.

We found the location and garden exceptional, and the room had a nice view over the harbor. Breakfast was very good, and the restaurant was nice, though not exactly a bargain. Our main issue was that rooms are only serviced on request. I understand it can be hard to find enough trained staff, but at the price and with four stars, I expected more. The staff were very friendly, though their training could improve. If these issues are sorted out, I'd give it five stars.

The location was a plus, close to the ferry port with easy access to the center. We also got a small card for three free lift rides. But after paying €294 for one night, I expected much more. On arrival we were told breakfast wasn't included, even though the booking site specifically said it was. The room was small but quite nice; the sliding glass bathroom door didn't close all the way and took some effort. There was no A/C, so it got very warm in the hot weather. The hotel offers luggage storage when you leave, but it turned out to be an unsecured downstairs area next to the toilets and kitchen. For this price, the experience fell short, and I'd tell others to take that into account.

The people working there were lovely, and we stayed for three days. Breakfast and the food were fantastic. Our room wasn't cleaned every day, they only made the bed, so maybe you have to ask. The sauna and steam room could use improvement. The steam room wasn't clean and didn't work properly.
