Hotel Starkenburger Hof

The green tea was genuinely excellent, but that was about the only bright spot. The breakfast was overcooked eggs, some pork and cheese, jam, and awful coffee. The rooms are old and hard to keep clean, and the internet is practically unusable. For the service you get, the place is expensive. You have to pay for almost everything in advance, and until you've paid, the staff make you feel suspicious, even without saying it outright. It seems to attract mainly fitters, groups of tourists, mostly from India, and first-time visitors who don't know what to expect.

The restaurant food was decent, but the staff's attitude made this a really bad stay. The hotel seems to be family-run and badly understaffed. The three or so people working there didn't seem to know English or care much about guests' needs. The owner came across as lethargic and oblivious, and rude, arrogant and snobby are among the kindest words I can use. We were traveling with a group of elderly people, and with no elevator or help with luggage, moving our bags was hard. The rooms were cold, the heating didn't work properly even turned all the way up, and dirty towels and no soap left me wondering who gave the hotel THREE STARS!? The so-called wifi barely worked beyond reception, so I had to sit in the hallway to check my mail. Please do NOT stay here. You'll waste your money and the few hours of good sleep you need on a trip. Cheers.

We were 40 people and only staying one night. When our bus broke down on a German highway, we were stranded in freezing weather without food or water and reached the hotel at 3:30 am. The owner and his family were awake and served us hot food in the middle of the night. They gave us a delicious breakfast in the morning too. Fantastic service when we needed it most. The rooms aren't anything special, and the toilet smelled bad, but for the budget it was worth the money. The Indian food was amazing and felt homely, and breakfast was nice.

We got a clean enough place for a quick night's sleep, with free WiFi. It's an older hotel right across from the train station, with squeaky stairs and some odd layouts. The bathroom was large, but the bathtub and shower were so high that getting in could be hard for some people.
