Villa Strandrose

We booked on the spur of the moment to see the natural wonder of the frozen Baltic Sea, and were really pleased with our stay. The room was spotless and had a great Baltic Sea view. Key pickup was easy, and the service was friendly. Breakfast was plentiful and varied, and they even served coffee and cake in the afternoon. We'd gladly come back. Thanks to Ms. Piech and her team.

STAY AWAY IF YOU DON'T WANT A NASTY SURPRISE!!! We booked a New Year's Eve break with friends through Booking.com over a year ahead. A few days later, I got a letter from the owner about a deposit. Since the booking terms hadn't mentioned one, I called to ask why it was needed. The call was already very unfriendly, and I was told parking could only be booked on arrival day by making another phone call. I transferred €166 right away, on December 4th, 2024. On December 29, 2025, we left for Ahlbeck at 6:00 AM. At 8:30 AM, Ms. P., the host, called and opened with, "You're not on your way to my accommodation, are you? I have a cancellation notice from you and only have one room available for one night." We were meant to stay until January 2nd. We tried again and again to explain that we hadn't cancelled, that the deposit had been paid over a year earlier, and that it was strange to hear from the host on arrival day. She wouldn't listen. After the call, Ms. P. told Booking.com there had been an overbooking, but oddly said nothing about our supposed cancellation. Fortunately, Booking.com helped us right away and found us a much better alternative at the Hotel Eden. The next day we picked up our friends at Villa Strandrose. The host refunded our deposit in cash. I said we're all human and mistakes happen, but that I at least expected an apology for such a bad start to the holiday. She kept arguing, wouldn't let me finish, and didn't apologize at all. We didn't have to stay there, thankfully, but at reception the landlady was wearing worn-out clothes, and the rooms looked shabby and outdated. I won't go into the state of the accommodation beyond that.

The breakfast room and selection were very good, and our room was good too, though the bathroom felt a bit dreary. We only stayed one night but would definitely book again. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and very nicely located.

Breakfast had a bit of everything, and the view was okay. The room, though, was a letdown. The heating was broken, with part of it defective, so we had to use a space heater. The room still sat at a comfortable 17°C. The furniture and bathroom need updating. The shower screen had broken seals and was dirty, there weren't enough modern electrical outlets, and the balcony door seals need replacing. I'd only conditionally recommend it, given the issues beyond breakfast and the view.
