Thomahof

The staff at Hotel Thomahof made us feel at home, and our stay was fantastic. It was a memorable way to enjoy the beauty of the Black Forest. A heartfelt thanks to the whole team for making our visit so special.

The area is quiet and the location is nice, with a playground nearby. The people working at the hotel are so kind. The restaurant food was really good too, thanks to the chef.

The food was okay, neither great nor bad, but the service was awful and wasted a lot of our time. We arrived at 12:30, then waited until 2pm for our meals, chasing three times and being told repeatedly they were coming. We were told the delay was because they were short a cook, though that’s not a valid reason for guests. Other tables around us were served right away. We had three guests over 65 and two under 3, and it would have meant a lot if this had been handled better. By the time we finished, there was hardly any sunlight left for outdoor activities. The staff lacked customer service for a hospitality business. A simple apology would have been enough; the owner’s reply felt straightforward and almost unapologetic, and seemed to focus on their ego instead of understanding the situation. Their sarcastic comment about being glad we wouldn’t return only confirmed it for me. My review stays for others to judge. The portions were ridiculous at first: I ordered a child’s schnitzel and an adult portion, and they were the same size. To correct myself after the owner family’s comment, the adult portion had two slices and the child’s had one, but each adult slice was about half the size of my hand. I did receive a top-up at no extra cost, and I appreciate that, but I had to ask for it after waiting 1.5 hours. Nobody offered it proactively. Of course the plates were empty by the end, after guests had been left hungry. Judging a restaurant only by how much food is left on plates misses the full experience. We definitely won’t be back.

We spent a week here in August, and our room was in a corner that never got any sun. The machines for the new swimming pool were supposed to be off at that time, but their irritating noise was a big disappointment. What bothered us most was that the website promised a dessert buffet, champagne, and a salad buffet. None of those were provided, even though the website clearly said so and could have been updated. We didn’t get the service we booked.
