Waldhotel Silbermühle

There are challenging trails nearby, and you can hike or bring your bikes. The area also has several museums, and there’s a playground for children at the hotel. The food was really good, especially the apple cake, and everyone was friendly. I love this place. It’s clean and quiet, with decor that feels like history in itself. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, this is the place.

The seating area by the lake is stunning, and there are some really huge fish in the water. Service was excellent and especially friendly. They even gave us a piece of cake on the house. There’s no cellphone service, but that’s a good reason to put the phone away and enjoy the setting.

After a long hike, we had a lovely stay. The room was spacious and more than we expected, and the staff made us feel very welcome. I’m looking forward to coming back soon.

We’ve been coming to this restaurant for more than 40 years, and it has never let us down. The service is old-fashioned and attentive, always with a smile, and the food selection is excellent. You need to choose your dishes by 4 pm on the day to keep your table booking. They serve beer from the local brewery Straate, including the well-known Detmolder Pils and now the full range of Straate beers. I had duck breast with oranges, and it was delightful. The setting is a great part of the experience: Silbermühle Wald Hotel is tucked into the woods at the foot of the Teutoburger forest, with a working water mill and mill pond. The atmosphere, food, and service made for a lovely evening with friends. Well worth visiting. Tip: bring two €2 coins for the barrier on the drive through the woods.
