Staying in a building more than 400 years old is a big part of the appeal of the HÖERHOF. It’s also in a super convenient spot, about a 5 minute walk to the Aldstadt. We didn’t try the restaurant, though it has rave reviews. Breakfast was lovely in a small setting, but costs extra. A couple of practical things: the beds are pretty stiff, and there are no coffee machines in the rooms, though you can ask for a kettle. The Wi-Fi wasn’t reliable at all, but cell phone coverage was good on the hill. If you book through an outside vendor like Bookings.com, check that you’re charged correctly. The front desk colleague accidentally charged us the full price even though we’d already paid.

A lovely old-town setting in Idstein, with a fairy tale look and fantastic service. The restaurant serves beautiful dishes and wonderful wine. The hotel was conveniently placed for our trip en route to Tirol.

The hotel is picturesque, but the management was terrible. We stopped in for a beer while visiting this beautiful Town and ordered a couple of pilsners. What arrived were IPAs, and one glass was dirty. We waited more than 10 minutes for the server to explain, even going over to reception, but nobody came back, so we left without drinking them. Seconds later, staff appeared with a terrible attitude. We explained what had happened and showed them the dirty glass, but they insisted we pay and threatened to call the police. We paid for one beer and left.

The building is lovely and old, and the town has a lot of charm. We really enjoyed the unique hotel and the very good service. The sommelier was outstanding, knew her wines, and was brilliant with tastings, samples, and selling. Truly one in a thousand, thank you! The food was okay, though not great. Portions were big, but the taste was a bit bland, and there seemed to be too much use of the sous-vide machine. It felt like limited staffing might have affected the food.

Idstein is a scenic town, and the hotel has a charming 16th century feel. It was extremely restful, and we were sorry to leave. The staff were friendly, the service excellent, and the rooms clean and spacious enough. Breakfast was simple and delicious, and parking was good. Thoroughly recommended.
