Alte Schmiede

The staff were great and so were the dishes. I was there with a friend, and we were more than satisfied with everything.

The meat was burnt.

We had a really enjoyable evening here today. The staff were attentive, professional, and very friendly, and the fresh, delicious food was a pleasure. There’s a great selection on the menu, too.

The meal itself was a letdown, so I won’t be coming back. My fries were badly overcooked and fell apart when I tried to pick them up with a fork. The schnitzel had a slight fishy taste, which made me wonder whether the fish and schnitzel dishes are fried in the same oil. Taste is personal, of course, but the fries weren’t to my liking. I’m only commenting on the food and dining experience, since I came to eat and was looking for a German restaurant when I found the Alte Schmiede in Jork. The prices and menu looked reasonable at first, and I ordered a Wiener Schnitzel with a large Sinalco Coke for €15.70. Both arrived quickly, which was a plus. The place is nicely designed and pleasant, although there were only four people seated out of 52 available seats, including me. It felt more like fast food in a restaurant setting than an enjoyable meal out. The impression got worse when the waiter sat behind the counter eating while talking through the kitchen door in another language to a woman, presumably an employee. She was preparing something with sugar and kept licking her fingers, which wasn’t appetizing to watch.
