133 Boutique Hotel Karlsruhe

The room had a “do not disturb” sign, which, along with my first impression, made us wonder if we'd booked an adult hotel. Still, it was nice otherwise. The shower had no privacy, so it felt more suited to dates than travellers. :)

A bakery about 50 meters away was great for an inexpensive, tasty breakfast. The reception was nice, though it seemed a bit unorganized, hard to explain. Our room was pleasant and had space for everything we needed, despite being very small. We really missed having a garbage bin.

The location was convenient, and we liked the cute interior, but as a couple we didn't enjoy our stay. The bed was only 140cm wide, too small for two, and the mattress was poor quality, very soft and bouncy. After a terrible first night we told the staff. They were sorry, but said every room had the same beds. They offered to look for a topper, but none turned up. We got no compensation for the bad nights, though even a coffee would've been nice. I'd rather see money spent on better mattresses than interior design. We've never had such a bad bed in any other hotel. There was noise and cigarette smell from the ground floor restaurant. Even with the windows closed, we could hear customers talking as they went out to smoke and smell the smoke. There was no kettle in the room, either. The tram was out front and construction behind us.

Free coffee is a big plus, and the price felt well matched to what you get. The staff were welcoming and kind. It's a centrally located hotel with a nicely designed boutique-style lobby and rooms, plus practical awnings and air conditioning.
