Schlosshotel Karlsruhe

The lift, supposedly a national treasure built in 1928, was the best thing about this hotel. The rooms feel very dated, though the bed was good and the pillows were awful. Staff were friendly. It's right by the train station, around a 15-20 minute walk to the centre, so handy if you're moving on to the next part of a trip. Three stars at best.

The room was cold and had neither a kettle nor a fridge, which made the high price feel even worse. I was there on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, but late checkout was limited to an hour, with each extra hour costing €25. At check-in, despite having paid in advance, a staff member said I still owed the money. A colleague later apologized after they checked the reservation. At checkout, nobody asked about the stay, they seemed focused only on getting guests out. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

A charming, old-fashioned little hotel close to the Hbf. Our bathroom had recently been renovated and was lovely. I'd stay here again if I came back to Karlsruhe.

The hotel has a real sense of local culture and history, and even riding the elevator feels like part of that. The staff were professional, welcoming and easy to talk to. Our room was just right and very clean. I loved the location and the general atmosphere, and there are some really good restaurants and cafes around. A great base for seeing this beautiful city.
