Hotel Hessenland Kassel by stay awesome

I’ve stayed at Hessenland Hotel Kassel regularly for close to 40 years. The location is ideal, the rooms are clean and generous, and the price is very competitive. Univ. Prof. Dr. Christian P. Stehr Portland, Oregon/U.S.A.

This old hotel has become a comfortable, cool space thanks to a young group of ecologically minded people who love their city. It’s a festive, funky gem, and I extended my stay, which also gave me access to the Hessen Tourist Card (meine Karte?). Used well, that card saves heaps of money. The building is old but clean, with some great retro features, and the staff are helpful, kind, friendly, and welcoming. It sounds like a temporary project, and I hope it’s still here next time I visit. There’s quite a bit of construction all around the hotel, with streets, new buildings, and new pipes under the streets, so it can get loud at 7am. The trams go by all day too. They offer earplugs at the front desk if you’re sensitive. It’s a great location, though, so you can’t expect everything to be birdsong and wind. You can walk to a park! I could go on, but I’ll stop gushing.

What made the stay for us was how welcoming it felt, especially for our dog, who was given treats. We also loved being able to head out on beautiful walking trails nearby each day. The vintage look gave the place plenty of character, and the staff made us feel at home. It was great to stay somewhere that cares about sustainability without skimping on comfort or style. We had a fantastic time and can't wait to come back. A lovely option for a pet-friendly, eco-conscious getaway.

Breakfast won us over after the first morning. We tried the vegetarian options, liked them, and booked it for the rest of our stay. The overnight porridge was amazing. The room was clean and pleasant, with a comfy firm bed and a nice city view. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the location made it easy to get around and find parking. City and tram noise was noticeable, though. I also missed having a fridge, and the small bathroom didn't have proper ventilation. We visited in June and had a nice time overall. 🙂
