Burg Gutenfels

The peaceful setting and gorgeous views made our night here feel unreal. While we were castle hopping with our kids, we needed somewhere to sleep for a night. My husband suggested looking for a castle, and our booking worked out perfectly. We had the whole place to ourselves, so the kids could run around while we explored and imagined what it would be like to live there. Everyone we met was so kind and helpful. I really hope we get the chance to stay again. I'd give it a million stars if I could.

We spent the night here with my parents a few weeks ago, and I'm already looking forward to coming back. Our large room had two king beds and a kitchen, and we found wine and spent the evening exploring until midnight. The paths and courtyards were lit, though we had to find the lights ourselves. You can wander through the grounds and find doors in the walls that lead into the cathedral and towers. Give yourself at least a few hours to look around. The director met us at breakfast and answered all our questions; he had the staff make whatever we wanted. Words don't really capture how it felt to walk through those gates. Staying here gave us an experience we wouldn't have got from simply visiting another castle.

I felt so welcome here. Sleeping in a modern room inside a castle and being able to walk around it was incredible, and the atmosphere and staff made it even more special. I can't put into words how amazing it was. I'll stay here again next time I'm in Germany.

We loved waking up to a cool breeze through the high windows and views over the Rhine and the connecting valley. There are garden and patio areas for some privacy or for sitting with friends, and with just five rooms we never worried about crowds. The rooms have modern conveniences, including little kitchens, and the bathrooms were very clean and well equipped. What makes it special is that it's a real castle, not a new building put up on old ruins. It was a private home before becoming a hotel and later a five-room B&B. We and our friends had such a good stay, I could go on, but I'll keep it short: stay here if you get the chance. It would also make a fairy-tale sort of place for a wedding or vow renewal.
