Vienna House Easy by Wyndham Frankfurt Airport

The hotel is clean and decent for checking in late and leaving early, if you can live with being 12 minutes by car from Frankfurt Airport. There’s a fitness centre, breakfast, and a restaurant, but I didn’t feel drawn to return. Most of the rooms are on low floors, and ours didn’t have a view. The 7.5m pool costs €6 each day/person and was cold, though the sauna was nice. The free airport shuttle is great on arrival, but for no apparent reason the ride back costs €7. A taxi takes 15 to 20 minutes. Bed options are mostly twin beds, with a rivulet between them if you’re a couple, and the room size was as advertised. There’s shampoo and an in-room safe, but no conditioner or tea or coffee maker.

The room was clean, had good water pressure, and was the usual basic cookie-cutter hotel setup. I’d been looking forward to staying here after seeing the reviews and photos on Booking.com. I chose it over other places nearby because the restaurant and bar looked good, and I expected to be hungry after my flight. I wish I’d booked one of the others. Getting there was a mess. I waited over 45min at the airport while other hotels’ shuttles came by two or three times. One shuttle had “Vienna House Easy by Wyndham,” “Moxy,” and another hotel name on it, so another passenger and I got on. Just before pulling away, the driver asked if everyone was going to Moxy. We said we needed Vienna House, and he told us it was the wrong shuttle. I called the hotel twice and got no answer. When I finally reached someone, she said it was coming in “15more minutes.” My flight landed at 8:30pm. I had no checked bags and walked straight to the meeting point, but by the time I called it was already 9:30pm and the restaurant closed at 10pm. I asked if I could order food ahead so it would be ready when I arrived, explaining that I have type 1 diabetes and needed to eat. The woman said no and suggested pizza, though I didn’t understand why that was the only option. I asked to speak with someone at the restaurant, but the transfer never went through. I figured I should wait because the shuttle ought to be there any minute, instead of taking an Uber. I should have taken the Uber. While I waited, Uber Eats showed nothing available. At the hotel I asked about that, and one woman said people always get Uber Eats delivered there until 4am. After searching the app in my room for 15 minutes, I went back down and rang the bell because both women were in the back. A different woman came out and said Uber Eats wasn’t really used there and I should check Lieferando. I don’t know why nobody told me that the first two times I asked, on the phone and at the hotel. The bar was still open, but a man handed me a menu and never came back, so I still don’t know if it served food. I went back to the desk and rang again to ask for a pillow and another blanket. In winter, the bed had only half a pillow and a quarter of a very thin blanket. Eventually the food arrived. They must have given the delivery guy my room number, because he came upstairs and knocked. I answered in a towel, thinking it was one of the women. I should have checked the peephole, but why send a strange man around the hotel to knock on a solo woman’s door? There’s no phone in the room, so I had to go downstairs whenever I needed anything. As someone with a disability, that felt unsafe. I could call emergency services, of course, but if my glucose dropped very quickly, I might need help before an ambulance arrived. The room was cold, and the thermostat had no numbers, so I couldn’t tell the temperature. For an airport hotel, you’d think a lot of guests would arrive late because of long layovers or cancelled flights. I’d have expected the restaurant to stay open until at least 11pm, or for the bar to have some kind of food. No one mentioned bar food when I explained three times that I needed to eat, so I’m assuming it wasn’t available.

A flight delay meant I needed a place to stay, and I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It’s clean and cozy, in a small town near Frankfurt Airport. The restaurant service was amazing, and breakfast was healthy and delicious. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try.

After a delay with discovery airlines caused us to miss our connection, we stayed one night. The room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was nice, and the staff were really kind. It’s only up to 10min by bus from the airport, and had everything we needed for the night.
