bigBox Allgäu Hotel

I stayed here on my last trip from India to Germany and also attended a two-day work event. The hotel has a bright, vibrant look inside and out, and sits on the main road opposite the famous Forum mall. From reception and the rooms, the views are very nice. My room looked decent, with two single beds pushed together. The combined bed was a little small, but comfortable in the end. The bathroom was small, very clean, and had the necessary toiletries. Housekeeping did an appreciable job. There’s also a small ground-floor gym with basic equipment, plus a good washroom and changing room. The large restaurant is nicely decorated, and the buffet breakfast was well managed, with lots of vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices. The hotel also has a nice bar and a conference room large enough for around 40 people. Snacks and drinks were available there, and housekeeping came by regularly to refill water and snacks, which I appreciated. Staff were professional and cordial throughout. It was a pleasure staying in Kempten.

The hotel itself is great, but the WizzAir contract and the way they book rooms are another matter. Lots of people have complained about being made to share rooms with strangers. Unacceptable!

The shopping centre is right across the street, and you can walk down the same road into the town centre. I had dinner once at Musics restaurant, and the food was top quality. The staff were all chatty and helpful. Another great stay at this modern hotel, with clean, comfortable rooms, great bathrooms, and a sublime shower.

The check-in started badly. I was travelling with a work group and hadn’t booked the room myself. The employee couldn’t find my reservation at first, then brushed me off and said something like, “We can’t find your name and we’re all booked up, so go find another hotel.” It got sorted eventually, but nobody apologized. The room was tiny but clean and modern, and having only one pillow was weird. There’s a silhouette of someone playing an instrument in every bathroom, which looks terrifying at night. Breakfast was good, and the small fitness room was serviceable.
