Hotel St. Raphael in the Allgäu

There’s plenty of parking, including a nice shaded spot under the trees behind the hotel, and the surroundings are pleasant. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the old town. My room was clean and standard, though there was no air conditioning. Breakfast was included, with a pretty good selection. I liked the place and would recommend it.

The former monastery has been completely renovated and now feels quite modern. Getting into town on foot is easy, and the staff are very friendly with consistently great service. The restaurant changes its menu often and serves seasonal dishes; the steaks were surprisingly good. Breakfast was plentiful, too. The rooms are all the same, with a queen-size bed and TV, and the free Wi-Fi was mostly very usable.

We’d love to return if we’re back in the Allgaü region. The rooms were spacious and very clean, and the staff made us feel welcome. Breakfast was tasty and had a huge spread. It really was a good hotel.

We started our Europe honeymoon here, and the breakfast was a wonderful way to begin the first day. There was a superb range of tasty food and drinks, probably one of the best breakfasts at any hotel we’ve stayed in. The staff also made the stay memorable. We had to leave at 7:30 for our early Neuschwanstein Castle slot and leave the room card and bill at reception, but had no change for the beer from the night before. Vilma from the restaurant patiently explained that reception opened at 8, helped us get some change, and gave us lovely honeymoon wishes. It meant a lot. The night before, a friendly man at reception had checked us in smoothly in under five minutes despite our 21:00 arrival.
