Steigenberger Conti Hansa

The central location was a plus, and it was still peaceful. I also really enjoyed the breakfast, with lots of fresh choices, and the staff were kind and quick to help. My room was bright, spotless, and comfortable right away. I spent a few days at Steigenberger Conti-Hansa and honestly didn’t want to leave. It was a really pleasant stay and better than I expected.

The low-flying helicopter traffic from the nearby hospital woke me up from time to time, so light sleepers may want to keep that in mind. The pillows were also really bad and left my neck sore. Still, I found Steigenberger Conti Hansa in Kiel cozy and well located, with clean, tidy rooms that were nicely kept and good for the price. Breakfast had a decent range of hot and cold food, though it was very standard. It works for a night or for a longer stay while exploring Kiel and the surrounding area. I’d come back.

I expected more for what I paid. The staff at reception and the bar were friendly, and they let us leave our luggage before check-in and after check-out. The rooms were quiet, with no noise from next door. The beds were as expected, and both rooms were clean, but the showers were a real letdown. In the harbour-view comfort double on the sixth floor at the rear of the building, water pressure was poor, the shower barely flowed, and the temperature kept swinging between warm and cold. The view we paid extra for wasn’t really there, as the front parts of the building and the trees in Schlossgarten blocked the harbour. That room had no air conditioning. My other stay was in a Comfort Business Room on the second floor at the front. Its air conditioning sometimes worked, but mostly showed an error. The bathroom shower there was nearly impossible to set to a comfortable temperature, with water either boiling hot or freezing cold. The restaurant has only two vegan dishes, salad and fries with ketchup, and there are just a few vegan options at breakfast. High-speed internet requires an hrewards account, while the free slow connection was extremely slow.

A classic hotel in a good location, and it wasn’t too noisy.
