Landhotel Karrenberg

The restaurant food was delicious, definitely worth trying. Rooms were very clean, the service was fantastic, and the price was reasonable. It’s a quiet spot surrounded by lovely green space. The bathrooms have a retro 1970s look, but everything still works. My only real gripe was the pillows: too big, too firm, and too warm in the summer heat.

The Landhotel Karrenberg feels like a park, with greenery, chairs, tables and activities spread around. I ended up finishing this review on one of the “Liegen” benches outside. After a long ride, that quiet, relaxed setting was exactly what I needed. Dinner was great, the staff were friendly and supportive, and the breakfast buffet had everything I needed, including an apple for the next leg. The room was very clean and had what I needed. The WiFi worked well, and there were plenty of outlets at the desk, though the one by the bed was hidden behind the headboard. There’s lots of outdoor space to explore, and perhaps find a new idea or two. A QR code on the back of each room door links straight to their Google listing, which shows they take their service and online presence seriously. I chose this place from its mostly positive Google reviews to see how comfortable it would be bringing my bike and working there. This was part of my #WorkFromAnywhere project, where I visit places with my laptop, usually arriving by bike, to see whether I can work and feel the bike is safe. My reviews are aimed at people working from home who want a break, and bike tourists. This isn’t a hotel or food review. After two years without touring, I set off in the early June warmth. I followed the Moselle River to Zell, then took backroads to the Landhotel Karrenberg. On another #WorkFromAnywhere outing, I used the €9 train ticket to Treis-Karbach, then cycled up the Moselle past beautiful Cochem, its castle, and vineyards clinging to the steep slopes. This was day one of a three-day tour. The hotel welcomes bikers, mostly people with bigger motors than mine, so the bike-clothing test was easy. There’s no rack or locking point outside the entrance. When I asked about overnight parking, they offered a garage, which was perfect. It isn’t visible from the hotel, though, and staff open the door in the morning, so locking the bike matters. There’s still nowhere to lock it to. Not a deal breaker, but worth knowing. Groups of cyclists have plenty of room for their bikes. Working here was okay. There are lots of places to relax, and relaxing is really what the place is for. WiFi was good. The room’s outlets were plentiful at the desk, but the usual one by the bed was tucked behind the headboard. The outdoor seating is available, and I could refill my water bottle. Coffee was good, and cards were accepted. I saw no visible charging ports or mobile NFC payment option. For working remotely, I’d give it 4 out of 5, since the room was the only place to get power. Bike safety gets 4 out of 5, and work comfort 3 out of 5. There was no bike rack, so the rack count is zero.

The restaurant serves tasty food, and the staff were really friendly. My room was small but okay, though the floor looked quite worn and the bathroom was cold. Not having free WiFi feels behind the times.

The hotel sits in a green area, and the room was good. We especially appreciated the staff, some of the friendliest we’ve ever encountered. The restaurant is worth recommending for both breakfast and dinner.
