We came back a year later and it was just as good as we remembered. We'll happily return again. The only disappointment was having just one night in the area. The hotel is in a quiet, well-placed spot for walks and countryside views, and it's only half an hour from Basel airport. Service was warm, friendly, and helpful. Our bedroom was spacious and thoughtfully laid out, the beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless and modern. That walk-in shower was one of the best I've used. No tired pine bathroom here. The menu is extensive and thoughtfully put together. We tried a couple of standard main courses, both delicious, well cooked, and nicely presented. There was much more we didn't get to try, including a chef's choice tasting menu that looked tempting. We've stayed at a few Black Forest hotels, all welcoming and with good food, but this was probably the best.

The rooms are a bit dated, but they're large, cozy, and very clean. We had a great stay, with friendly service from all the staff, and the location was perfect for walks nearby. The restaurant was good too, and having it upstairs was convenient with our small baby.

We arrived between lunch and dinner, after the kitchen had closed for the afternoon, and could still choose from plenty of local cold dishes, cakes, and ice cream. The staff were excellent, and parking is nearby. I speak fluent German, so I can’t comment on their English, though I’m sure they’d do their best. The local dialect word “Veschper” for a small meal is a great one. We tried the cheese salad and the tapas-style selection of three small dishes with bread. That included thinly sliced smoked boar prosciutto, smoked bacon salad, beef salad, a cheese platter, and some excellent liver parfaits. There was plenty of food, and we felt it was worth the somewhat higher price. I’ll come back next time I’m visiting.

After lunch, we went for a walk around Schwand. We’d come to celebrate our wedding anniversary and really enjoyed the food and the Black Forest setting.

A quiet town and a great stop on the way to Switzerland or Italy. We walked route number 2, then had dinner. My girlfriend enjoyed her mushroom risotto, and I had a great pork steak with mushrooms and rosti. I’ll come back here.
