Haus Mosel

We used the good Wi-Fi to watch Netflix in the evenings, and the free parking right in front of Haus Mosel made things easy. The location worked perfectly for our two days in the area: we visited Cochem, Saarland, the Geierlay suspension bridge, and Eltz Castle. At €135 for two nights in a double room with mountain view in mid-September, it was good value, especially since many places nearby cost more. There was no breakfast, which didn't matter much to us. We also didn't see any staff; the keys were in a safety box opened with a code they sent, so that felt covid-proof. Our room was on the second floor and there’s no elevator. It was fine for us, and Booking mentions it in the room description, but it's easy to miss. The pillows were the main downside: so thin it felt like sleeping on the mattress, and the one extra pillow we found didn't help much when combined with another. If we stayed again, we'd bring our own. Apart from that, it's a great location.

The location and surroundings are attractive, and the nearby wine bars are worth recommending. We stayed four nights in the rear apartment, reached by a spiral staircase through the courtyard. It looks pretty at first, but for the price there are too many faults once you look closer. The balcony is boxed in by some sort of soundproofing wall, leaving only the top of the church visible, so there's no real village view. Noise was infuriating: trains thunder right behind the apartment, or balls hit the garage door and make practically everything inside shake. There is less train traffic overnight, so it's generally quieter then. The kitchen is short on utensils for self-catering, and the extractor hood light doesn't work. Bathroom shower and sink faucets are beyond repair, the shower seal is completely rotten, and the toilet seat is much too small.

Being right on the Moselle River made it such a lovely place to unwind. We felt completely at home in Haus Mosel. The apartment was clean and had everything we needed, and we'd be happy to come back.
