Mercure Hotel Koblenz

The staff were friendly, and the room was clean, spacious, and had a nice view over town. It was a fair price, with the tourist center of Koblenz about a five-minute walk away. Breakfast was delicious, with a good buffet and a chef who made omelettes to order. The restaurant also has a magnificent view of the river and the village on the hill across it. There’s plenty of parking in the garage, but unfortunately we couldn’t get the charger connected to our Tesla.

Getting around was easy, whether arriving by car or exploring Koblenz on foot. The garage has a direct lift to the lobby, and hotel guests get a reduced parking rate. The Wi-Fi worked well too. My room’s cleanliness was disappointing: a supposedly fresh towel had quite large stains, and there was hair in the bathroom that wasn’t mine. After I complained, things improved for the rest of my stay. Be aware that rooms aren’t cleaned during your stay unless you ask. The hotel presents this as environmental friendliness, but to me it’s an obvious way to save money. The bathroom, in particular, could use some refurbishment. It was an OK hotel, but not enough for a four-star rating in my view.

The breakfast was excellent, but I wouldn’t give the hotel two stars without it. A lot of building work outside cuts the hotel off from the rest of town, and the staff didn’t seem to know how the buses run. There was no portable timetable or town map, just one map on the wall. It also felt as if the hotel mainly caters to Conference guests rather than individuals visiting Koblenz. The staff didn’t seem interested in paying guests, and no one could handle simple questions. With no management there at the weekend, and the chef going home on Sunday so there’s no cooking, it seemed badly run and even dangerous. I dread to think what might happen in a crisis.

The rooms were spacious and tidy, and ours had a great view of the Rhine. Breakfast was a buffet with a good selection, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They also give you a free drink for the bar and two complimentary drinks a day from the cabinet, including beer. The pricing was great, even for the highest quality rooms. The location isn’t the best for the main part of town, but both are an easy walk away. We had a great stay and would recommend it.
