ibis Koeln Airport

After a long day out, our host Philip lifted our spirits with hot food and some good conversation, and made us feel at home. Everyone I met was welcoming, polite, professional, and helpful, and they all spoke English. I definitely recommend this hotel.

We liked having a bar area to sit and get a drink in the evening, and the rooms were clean and nice, even if they showed a bit of age. Breakfast was good overall, with tasty sandwiches, mini pancakes about the size of 2 euro coins, warm eggs, and what looked like meatballs, let’s be honest. The reception was staffed day and night, and people were friendly and helpful. I needed to be near the highway for visits with friends living around Cologne but outside the centre, so the location suited me well. There’s protected parking, a KFC just 15 meters away, and a McDonald's a one-minute drive away. It’s a nice hotel, and with ibis you know what you’re getting.

It was quiet, and there were some döner shops nearby as well as a good McDonalds, so that was enough for me. The hotel is far from the city centre. Since it was messe time, the price was quite high, although still the cheapest among the nearby places. The rooms were good, but I wish there’d been tea or coffee in them, or at least free options at reception. Hot water was free, luckily I had tea with me, but the receptionist asked two or three times whether I was getting coffee or just hot water. I felt like a thief.

The staff were incredibly friendly and generous, and helped with everything we needed. Philip in particular was great. The rooms were comfortable, the food decent, and all in all we had a great stay.
