We love Königs Wusterhausen, and the other hotels we've stayed in in this lovely little town have all been great. This one was awful. The owners were horribly rude, and their attitude was inexcusable. We'd said we'd arrive around 7-8 pm and would message if we were delayed. There were lots of roadworks during our 1300km drive in one day, so we were running late. I messaged to apologize and say we'd arrive around 11pm. When we got there, nobody was around, but I wasn't worried because the owner had told me to call the mobile number. They answered and immediately yelled that we were too late, that they wanted to sleep, and that this wasn't normal. They eventually agreed to come let us in. About 10 minutes later, an elderly gentleman arrived and kept swearing in German, pointing at his watch and saying it was too late and he wanted to sleep. I tried to apologize and explain in my limited German that we'd sent a message, but he turned away, waved his hand at me to shut me up, and kept shouting, “nicht verstehe!” I was so upset I wanted to leave. My partner had driven the whole way and was exhausted, and the children were tired too, so I swallowed my pride and tears and stayed for their sake. The owner kept yelling and complaining about us, even waking other guests to tell them. My German is enough for basic conversation, but not for answering accusations in a heated argument. The next morning, he served us barely warm coffee at breakfast, so we decided to go into town for a decent cup instead. He seemed cheerful that we were leaving, but insisted we return the keys and basically leave right away. When we asked why we had to go so early, he yelled again and complained about us to guests standing nearby. We felt like we were being thrown out, though by then we didn't want to stay any longer. As we gathered our bags, he slammed the hallway door and kept saying bad things about us. I tried telling his daughter that we'd messaged the mobile number listed on their website. She said the number didn't exist and acted as if she hadn't received anything, even though I'd just used that same number to call the night before. I've never met people this rude in hospitality. If arriving at 11pm with advance warning is too late for this boarding house, they should say so on the website, or just close the place and avoid having guests. The accommodation wasn't good either. The bed frame was sturdy, but the mattress was foam. The bedding was clean but bobbly, the towels were small, and the shower doors were broken and wouldn't close properly. For decent coffee at a fair price, there's a lovely place called Wahl near the train station, where the staff are really kind and helpful. We appreciated that after the awful experience at Pension am Schloss. We do recommend Königs Wusterhausen, but definitely not this hotel.
The breakfast was nice, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was basic, but it was okay.
We were stranded nearby after our car broke down and had to be towed, with two small children and no way to get around. Close to midnight, we called the number on the door. The guesthouse was already closed and its family rooms were full, but he still found space for us in two smaller rooms, so we didn't have to keep searching that night. The rooms were very clean, and Wassilis and his family were incredibly kind. We're deeply grateful. It's a lovely family-run place.
The manager even brought my suitcase up to our second-floor room, which I really appreciated. We stayed three nights, and the room was clean and roomy, with a comfortable bed. It's about a 10-minute walk from the train station. We were very happy with our stay and would book here again if we're in the area.
We felt right at home here, thanks in large part to the warm service. Breakfast came to the table, but had everything you'd expect from a buffet: warm rolls and croissants, fresh scrambled and boiled eggs, salmon, yogurt, and good coffee, with as much as we wanted. The guesthouse was lovely and the rooms were clean.
