Zur Eiche

I was trying to book a room for friends, but the rental process felt unprofessional. There's no reception, and the hotel door was open, so anyone could walk in whether they had a room or not. The woman I spoke to by phone had limited German and couldn't answer my question properly. I ended up driving to the Sophienhof Hotel instead, where I was able to arrange a nice room for my friends.

We only tried the restaurant. The beer wasn't very good, the selection was limited, and the service was somewhat slow. My schnitzel with cauliflower wasn't what I'd expected: it was smothered in hollandaise, with hardly any cauliflower to be found. I wouldn't really recommend the food.

The food was fine, nothing special, and the prices were very reasonable. Even so, I can't recommend the place. There are much better restaurants in Königs Wusterhausen and nearby. The evening's service didn't help: despite several attempts, the proprietor, or perhaps the owner, seemed tense and unfriendly, without a smile or a kind word. The restaurant's decor first looked promising, until we noticed the tablecloths, which were basically the previous diners' "menus." Outside, the terrace was just as uninviting. Rainwater from the house downpipe ran through two trenches dug beneath the tables and out to the street, and the planters held wilted flowers from last year that were rotting. The first impression was disappointing, neglected, and unwelcoming.

Everything else nearby was booked, so I was relieved to find a room, but even €45 a night was too much for this. The bed was awful: the mattress had just one layer of fabric over it, and I could feel every steel spring. The shower was moldy, and the towel was tiny and stained. The building smelled strongly of food cooked in other guests' rooms. Most of the other guests were Eastern European migrant workers, and evenings were often noisy. Absolutely awful!!!
