Hotel Il David

The first couple of days at the hotel were pleasant. We were there for my partner’s daughter’s wedding, and my partner had arranged rooms for a lot of the family. Our room was small, but clean and comfortable, and the breakfast staff were friendly. Things went badly on the wedding day. The groom’s parents arrived wanting to freshen up in their room, but had accidentally left their IDs at the groom’s home. The father offered to go straight back for them and politely asked whether his wife could use the room briefly to shower. I understand that checking IDs is standard policy, but the owner was shockingly rude and aggressive. We calmly explained that several rooms were booked for our group and that the IDs would be brought shortly. He refused and became more hostile. After a heated exchange, he threatened to evict all our guests if we kept pushing, then finally gave them the key. That response was unacceptable, especially with multiple rooms booked for a family occasion. His hostility and lack of empathy put a damper on what should have been a joyful day. I usually leave positive reviews, but future guests should know what happened. Nobody should be treated with that kind of disrespect during a family celebration.

Dinner was delicious, and my five year old son especially loved the Pesto Walnut pasta. You’ll need a reservation since it’s always full. The setting is lovely, and there’s a park nearby where you can play chess 😉

The rooms are simple and cozy, and both the lodging and menu are very affordable. We enjoyed fine wines and excellent Italian food in a peaceful German countryside setting. The staff were friendly and knew their stuff.

We ended up here by chance and had a really good time. The food was good, and the friendly service and lovely Italian owners made it a great experience. Recommended.
