KU Hotel

My wife and I spent a week here. Booking and check-in were easy, parking was adequate, and the room was large and clean, apart from the silverfish. The room was also very dark because the lights point at the ceiling. The Wi-Fi was down all week, so the TV didn’t work either. I reported it on the first day and was told the issue had been passed along. I checked again the next day and never heard back. Wi-Fi is a basic thing these days, so don’t advertise it if you can’t provide it. Otherwise, the stay was okay.

We paid €65 a night. The room was adequate, and it’s about a five-minute drive to Kulmbach and the shopping centre. There’s also a great swimming lake nearby. This seems to be one of the older WMM hotels: it’s a house in a residential area, rather than the chain’s usual modular building in an industrial district. Parking is very limited, so arrive early. The entry hall is dim enough that I needed my phone torch to see the keypad. The house exterior is covered in cobwebs and needs cleaning; the front steps were dirty, and one tile was missing. In our room, the showerheads were clogged and didn’t work properly, and the fridge had no freezer.

We spent one night here with our small family and found the place clean, pleasant, and fairly spacious. It’s a quaint spot in a quiet area up a hill. Self check-in was easy, and having cooking facilities and a fridge was useful. We’d stay again on our next stopover.

I hate leaving bad reviews, and I’m usually a very positive person, but I feel I have to say this. I’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels across different countries, and this was the worst hotel experience I’ve had. The building didn’t look like the beautiful one in the picture. Nobody was at reception, and finding the room was difficult and confusing. The online form took ten minutes and asked for very private details, including a photo of my passport. It felt longer than booking a flight. The room was cold, and the Wi-Fi crawled along slower than my old grandmother. I’d specifically asked for a non-smoking room, but when I opened the door, the cigarette smell hit me like a cloud. I felt as if I were in an ashtray. The walls were dirty, and after I lay down, I saw spider webs hanging above the bed like in a cave. A disaster. I expect a full refund. Merry Christmas🌲
