Hotel Avalon

Mike, the manager, was very friendly and spoke excellent English. It’s a no-frills hotel right in the center of Landstuhl, with spacious, clean rooms and comfortable beds. Breakfast was good too, a German continental spread with scrambled eggs, sausage, and bacon.

We felt safe walking around town, and the hotel is an easy walk from lots of places, including the train station. We even hiked up to the castle for lunch and really enjoyed it. The room was spacious and had a fridge, ceiling fan, desk, huge wardrobe, and a very comfortable bed, with nightstands and outlets on both sides. From the private balcony, we looked out over the forest leading up to the castle, with chairs and a little table to sit at. The bathroom was large, clean, and had plenty of hot water. The lobby and room were clean too, and there’s an elevator if you’d rather skip the stairs. It was hot outside during the day, but the room and lobby stayed cool, and the place was very quiet. I only wish there’d been a coffee maker or kettle. Free parking, breakfast, and Wi-Fi were nice, and microwaves are at the end of each hall. The price was very reasonable. Mike and his wife were kind and accommodating, and we’d absolutely stay here again. We only regret not finding the place sooner, because we’d have come before.

I called just half an hour before closing because my son and I urgently needed a room. The staff were kind, helpful, and spoke English really well. They even suggested places where we might still find a late meal. We felt very comfortable in the quiet, clean room, which had a lovely balcony looking out over the trees and nature behind the hotel. There was a mini fridge, surprisingly large for a hotel, and the TV had a few English channels, including BBC and ITV. Breakfast came with the room and was lovely, with traditional German foods as well as scrambled eggs and bacon. My son was especially happy to find kiwi. Parking was plentiful, and I managed to park my Dodge Grand Caravan easily. I can’t say enough good things about our stay at the Hotel Avalon. I wish it were normal to hug strangers in Germany, because I’d have hugged the staff. Sending them virtual hugs.

We’ll definitely come back next time we’re in Landstuhl. Michael and Isabel were lovely hosts, and the housekeeping staff kept our room impressively spotless. Even though our room faced the traffic side, it stayed quiet. Breakfast had a wide choice of food and went well beyond what we expect from “Frühstück.”
