Hotel Wegner - The Culinary Art Hotel

Two emails about my early check-in question went unanswered, so I called to follow up. I asked whether the man on the phone spoke English and he hung up on me. I guess I'll cancel my booking. Thanks.

It's a lovely little family-run hotel with very good service. The rooms felt a bit old-fashioned, but they were clean and very comfortable. The breakfast is amazing, and worth trying even if you're not staying here. I'd definitely come back when I'm in the area.

The hotel is a 20-minute tram ride from the central station and close to the highway. I was on my way to Isernhagen and paid under 60 euros for the room, so I was surprised by how nice the hotel was. The room was clean and pleasant, with a fancy recliner, a perfect bed, and two pillows to choose from. The bathroom was a bit old but clean. The staff were very friendly. One person even walked me over to show me the night entrance and my room. Two years later, I returned twice with my partner, and both rooms were great. This weekend we had a really big, clean, spacious room. We tried breakfast and liked it a lot. The restaurant fills up with locals for brunch, which isn't surprising. Looking forward to visiting again.

The breakfast buffet was excellent, the best I've ever had, though dinner was average and expensive. The room looked like the pictures and was clean, but very cold because the hotel switches off the heating at night. You can request an electric heater, but that's inconvenient when you need it in the middle of the night, especially with a sleeping child. The baby cot and bedding were excellent. The adult bed, though, squeaked so much that every time we moved in our sleep, it woke us and our child. The shower water stayed warm only for a couple of minutes, then turned ice cold. Hot water came back after a 10-15 minute break, then went cold again, never staying warm long enough to wash with soap and rinse.
