The one downside was temperature control: we could only manage it by turning off radiators and opening the windows, which have a handy two-way opening design. I'd suggest asking for a quiet rear apartment with a separate bedroom. The location was great, within a 12-minute walk of the opera, Gewandhaus, St Thomaskirche, and other sights, and around 15 minutes from the Hauptbanhof. There are plenty of restaurants and kebab places nearby, plus a nice cafe and organic supermarket in the same building and a larger supermarket close by. This was the fourth apartment on our trip, and the second in Germany, and it was the best overall. It was a little small and the modern decor was fairly boring, but it was perfectly fine since we were out most of the time. It was very clean, and its kitchen was the best equipped of the four, with a full stove, microwave, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, and plenty of cutlery and crockery. Unlike the other places, washing detergent wasn't provided, so bring some. Dishwasher tablets and coffee filters, which we'd needed to ask for or provide ourselves elsewhere, were in the welcome pack along with mineral water and mini chocolates.

The room gets 3 stars from me, the staff 2, and the location 3.5, which comes to 2.7 overall. The apartment felt cramped and oddly arranged, with too much furniture and very little storage. It also wasn't clear how housekeeping worked. At check-in we were told to ask if we needed anything, but when we did, the desk staff said items like a dishcloth and detergent were our responsibility.

The staff were courteous and knew Leipzig well, and they could help plan an itinerary to suit different interests. The apartment is comfortable, with a sitting room full of furniture, a dining table, a well-equipped kitchen, one bedroom, and a bathroom. There's a restaurant accessible from inside the building, but breakfast is pricey, so the small grocery store in the building is a better place to pick up breakfast items. It's a short walk to historic Altstadt Leipzig and about five minutes to St. Thomas Church and the Rund Ecke Museum, with its chilling history of life under the GDR. Petersstrasse, the main shopping street, is close too.

The flat is very clean, the bed is comfortable, and the kitchen is very good. But there's no air conditioning or fan, so on hot days it gets hard to breathe. The flat faces the outdoor stairs, and cigarette smell is there all day.
