Hotel Fregehaus

The breakfast room and the selection at breakfast were amazing. This is a very stylish little boutique hotel in central Leipzig, with just a few rooms set in the courtyard of an old house with typical 16th-century architecture.

Hotel Fregehaus has a lovely feel to it, and the shared spaces were kept in good shape. The staff were polite, but we ran into several problems that took away from our stay. We were assigned an accessibility room without having asked for one. We understand those rooms are needed, but wish the hotel had told us about the change in advance. The bed was listed as a queen, yet it was two singles pushed together, and they kept separating unless we were careful. Sleep was uncomfortable. The room looked clean, but there was a persistent bad smell from the toilet, plus another odor we couldn't identify. A little more care with room assignments, maintenance, and guest comfort would make a big difference. Hotel Fregehaus has potential, but these details need attention.

Breakfast cost an extra 10 euros and was tasty. I also found a public lot nearby for my rental car, just 8 euros for 24 hours, which was a great deal. The room had completely modern decor, while the entrance and courtyard felt very cool and almost medieval. Those two huge old doors were wide open, though at first I barely noticed the sign on the street wall. I was told the building goes back to the Renaissance, and it looks the part. A cozy, quaint spot right in the middle of Leipzig, a town that's on the up and up.

You’re about 50 metres from the main square, and even the so-called small room was a good size and well equipped. The staff were lovely, friendly, and helpful, and breakfast was nice. A little gem.
