Hotel Schneider

The room and hotel felt run down, and we won't stay there again. Dust covered the room, the sheets were stained, and I found someone else's dark hair on my fitted sheet even though I'm blond. The carpet was coming apart, the bathroom tiles looked as if they hadn't been washed in ages, and we counted two spiders. In the corridor, the fire extinguisher was missing, as were some bulbs from the lamp. We came to Lich hoping to enjoy a pleasant, historic German town, but Hotel Schneider spoiled that for us. At reception, a cook gave us a room key along with a couple of snide remarks, without welcoming us. The next morning, staff ignored us and didn't respond when we greeted them. Calling them unfriendly and unprofessional would be putting it mildly. The usual talk about German cleanliness apparently didn't apply to Familie Schneider.

The food was delicious, and I'd recommend the restaurant even if you're not staying at the hotel. The staff looked after me wonderfully as an English speaker passing through. My room was very clean and well presented. A fridge would have helped for a longer stay, but that wouldn't stop me coming back. The Wi-Fi was excellent for a tourist, and parking is just behind the hotel. Highly recommend.

The restaurant is excellent. The house also operates as a butcher's during the day, and the meat was the best we've had at any German restaurant. The portions are generous and the prices low. It's a cosy, old-fashioned hotel in a small German town, close to the Autobahn, which made it handy for a quick overnight stop away from the rush.

We had a fantastic lunch at the restaurant, though we didn't use the rooms. The food was top-notch and the service was good. The place looked clean and well kept, but the seating felt a bit cramped. Don't expect a five-star gourmet lunch, but I'd recommend it for a good family dinner.
