I got there at 9pm and was told it was too late to take in new guests. I understand that a hostel may not offer 24-hour check-in. I also find it annoying when people arrive in a shared dorm early in the morning. Still, a 20:30 cutoff seems far too early. It means I lose useful time in the day because I have to aim for 6 or 7pm to allow for unreliable German trains. What bothers me most is that there’s no way to check the arrival deadline online. I ended up walking for over an hour in total because the hostel is so far from the railway. Google, please let accommodation listings show their opening hours. Edit: The staff have just sent me a rather passive-aggressive reply.

I was upset after arriving without a car and having nowhere to go. I got there 15 minutes after reception closed, and they wouldn’t let me in. Hostelworld didn’t show the reception hours, and nobody called ahead to check when I expected to arrive. I asked the man I saw at the window to make an exception, but he refused. I tried several times to contact the staff, but they wouldn’t provide a key. They even blamed me for not telling them my arrival time. I’m very disappointed with the service and wouldn’t recommend this accommodation.

The location is nice, but the rooms are poor. There’s no bathroom door, and you can hear everything through the walls.

The rooms are fine, and the view from the third floor is superb. I never managed to get the Wi-Fi working. Having a shower and toilet in the room was a plus.

A short train ride from Basel. The hostel was clean and practical, reception was helpful, and breakfast was very nice.
