Hotel Spreewaldeck

On our fifth visit to Spreewaldeck, we came to Lübbenau for the Christmas Markets. We realized at the last minute that we needed admission tickets. The manager confirmed that when we arrived, then, about ten minutes later, called us over after we had dropped our bags. He'd phoned ahead, secured two tickets, and explained exactly where to go. When we got there, the ticket person was already expecting the Alaskans who needed tickets. That kind of extra help says a lot about the hospitality here. The hotel is an easy walk from the train station, and Old Town and the harbor are nearby, with punt boat tours, canoe and kayak rentals, and other things for a Spreewald visit. We had a splendid stay. The town and hotel aren't geared toward American tourists, but everyone we met was friendly and patient with our very limited German. We also had several excellent meals at the attached gasthaus. Much of the food, including the pork and beef, is locally sourced, and everything we tried was high quality and well prepared. If you're spending time in Lübbenau, this is a lovely place to stay.
