Hotel Bergamo

Once you get past the strange locked-up foyer, the staff turn out to be very friendly and know their stuff. The breakfast is quite good, with regional food, and the Fairy garden and Ludwigsburg castle are very close by. I also liked the building’s restrained wood-and-concrete design. Just be prepared if you arrive in the evening: there’s nobody to welcome you, and a metal grate locks away the reception and foyer seating, with no food or drinks available. In the middle of a German provincial town at night, it really does feel a bit like Alcatraz, or the realm of Hades.

I was in town on a business trip and found the room clean and quite spacious. The hotel looks new, and the staff were polite and really friendly. There’s no 24-hour front desk, but if you’ve made a reservation you can check in at the outdoor kiosk. Breakfast isn’t a huge spread, though there was something tasty for everyone. The location is handy too, about a minute from the mall and five minutes from the historic center.

They charged us for two rooms even though we had booked just one for two nights, on 1 and 2 November 2024. We pointed out the mistake and tried to get the money back by phone and email, but got nowhere. It was a very bad and very expensive experience. I’d never book Hotel Bergamo again.

The hotel’s small and cozy, with just the basics, and it’s right across from a shopping mall. I was here on a business trip. Breakfast was the same each day, starting at 6:30 a.m. on weekdays and 7:30 a.m. on weekends. If you arrive late, there’s an outdoor check-in kiosk.
