Holiday Inn Luebeck by IHG

We were first charged one amount for three nights with breakfast, then asked to pay extra at the end because they said someone at reception had made a mistake. The breakfast and dinner menus were very limited. The pool room was cold and unheated, and the floor was so slippery it seemed dangerous for children. For this hotel, the price was far too high. I don't recommend it.

Parking worked out fine: the hotel's own lot and garage cost €20 a day, which felt too expensive, so we found a free space on Travemünde Allee, a few minutes' walk away. The hotel is right in the heart of Lübeck, only a short walk from the castle gate (Burgtor). Our room was spacious, clean, modern, and had everything we needed, including a small safe. The basement leisure area has a fairly large pool, a Finnish-style sauna, and a small gym. Breakfast had a good selection. A clear recommendation.

A very nice hotel within walking distance of the gates. The rooms were clean, the staff very friendly, and both breakfast and dinner were fantastic. Parking is a bit tight.

The name IHG was there, but the quality wasn't. Holiday Inn Lübeck by IHG falls well short of a 4-star standard, and I absolutely wouldn't recommend it. More than 14 days after we'd paid in full, the hotel still hadn't released a sum it had reserved. When we contacted them, they dismissed it as “not their fault,” which was completely unacceptable. Service was poor, the restaurant and bar were closed on Sundays, and the entrance made a bad first impression, with a table of dirty cups and an ashtray right outside. It felt unkempt and unprofessional, with a very low standard.
