Anno 1433 Hotel Lüneburg

The hotel is lovely, and you can tell it was renovated with real care for the old building. That’s what makes it special, and I’d recommend it to anyone who can manage the stairs. There’s no elevator, which makes sense in a small old hotel where one would take up too much space. Our rooms, numbers 1 and 3, were downstairs. The breakfast was simple but still very nice, with bacon and eggs boiled just right, not too hard. We had our own coffee thermos, and the coffee was okay. The breakfast and cleaning lady was exceptionally friendly and made an effort to make the stay special, always with a nice, sincere smile. As for the heat, the hotel isn’t ready for hotter weather, and there’s no air conditioning. The split-level bedroom in our most luxurious room got especially hot. Its door could only be opened with a key, even from inside, so you couldn’t leave if your partner had the key. That felt strange. Don’t press the red button, even if it’s tempting, unless maybe you’re locked in. We also had another luxurious room without an entresol, with an extremely high ceiling and a door to the garden. Very nice, but again, no air conditioning.

We booked the suite, and I’d definitely recommend that room. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and a good location.

The design was really nice, and the staff were helpful. But there’s no air conditioning, the breakfast was mediocre, and the room got very bright in the morning even with the curtains closed.

It looks good and feels cozy, but the soundproofing and temperature insulation aren’t great.
