Gästehaus am Wasserturm

We liked our stay here. The guesthouse is well protected by a 3-meter-high wall, which feels especially reassuring in such a central spot in the old town. There's a parking garage right across the street, and from the property you can see the water tower and church. Breakfast is served at a nearby hotel less than 150 meters away. The service was good, though you need to get in touch with the staff directly. Bikes can be kept safely in the covered courtyard.

The whole place has a distinctive, welcoming feel, and it's run by committed students, which also gives them a great chance to learn on the job. The guesthouse has clean, comfortable rooms and sits close to Lüneburg's old town and historic water tower. There's no breakfast at the guesthouse itself, but the same students run the Kutscherstube just 300 meters away, where you can get a tasty breakfast. A lovely choice if you value warm hospitality and a special atmosphere.

The location right in the heart of Lüneburg is hard to beat, though I suspect it draws guests, especially tradespeople on work assignments, for that reason. When we arrived, even after the stated arrival time, the cleaning still wasn't finished. Once it was done, the apartment was still dirty. The furnishings are old and some are badly damaged, while the kitchen and living room decor feels mismatched and tasteless. The walls are dirty too. The whole place feels neglected, which is a real shame given the building's potential.

This is a student project, and I don't know of another opportunity like it in Germany to support young people. Much respect for that.
