Gut Klostermühle

My husband had a medical emergency the day before our trip, and I was messaging from the hospital waiting room. They said we were already past the cancellation window, even though we'd booked with cancellation, and kept the full amount, including board. They didn't offer to move the booking. The suggestion was that a friend or family member could take it over. While I was waiting to find out if my husband was dying, I wasn't about to call around asking people to pay me for a last-minute midweek holiday. We had documentation from the hospital, but that didn't change anything. It was four nights and close to €1000, so on top of everything else I was upset about losing the trip and the money I won't have for another one. Completely cold and without compassion, like every business these days, I guess. We hate this place now and will never stay there.

We had a lovely stay for the price. The food was great, and the spa was amazing. The setting is beautiful too, with good options for hiking or taking a boat around the lake.

We wouldn't choose a gallery room again. The bedroom is up under the roof, and it got hot on a summer night with no air-conditioning. Those steep stairs are awkward at night when the bathroom is downstairs. The location is beautiful and the spa is nice, but we were surprised to learn that housekeeping only comes every other day. For the room price, that didn't feel right. Also, the restaurant was closed at lunchtime. That's inconvenient if, like us, you arrive by train without a car and can't go elsewhere for food. The website didn't mention this when we booked.

We could enjoy the pool and take walks since the weather was great, and the room had a nice lake view. It was still very warm in the room in summer, though the fan helped. We'd booked three days for spa treatments and a break from the city. The break worked, but spa treatments didn't: there are no cosmetic treatments available during the week, something I wish the homepage had said beforehand. We did get one massage, and that was all. Breakfast was nice, but identical every morning, and the coffee throughout the hotel was machine-made or filter/instant. The included three-course dinners were okay. The wine list was small and very basic.
