The staff were excellent, and breakfast was simple but nice. It’s a handy spot too, about four minutes on foot from the main station and 10-12 minutes from the beautiful old town. When you book, their own website may offer a better choice of rooms than booking.com. Tip: pick a room with a bath, it’s bigger.

The room had a fabulous view and was clean, comfortable, and modern, with all the amenities in perfect order. Breakfast was tasty with fresh coffee, and the staff on the other days and nights were friendly and helpful, including at checkout. The one bad part was check-in: the gentleman was surly, rude, and discourteous, complaining about our reservation change even though we’d deliberately left it unconfirmed because a change seemed likely. Get rid of that grouch from the first day and this would be a perfect five-star gem.

I stayed from August 11th through August 31st, and would definitely come back if I return to Mainz. The Guesthouse is well placed: the train station and Aldi, Rewe, or Tegut are within a five-minute walk. There’s a bus stop across the street for downtown, though walking takes only about 5 to 10 minutes. Both rooms were spacious and very clean, with internet, a small fridge, a two-burner stove, pots and pans, plenty of storage, a small desk, and a TV. I spent about four days in a single room on the 4th floor. My tablet and phone connected to the hotel WiFi, but my laptop didn’t. The window there only opened fully, not on tilt like is customary in Germany, and because it opened right above the bed I kept hitting myself on it. The front desk employees were extremely courteous and suggested moving me to a ground-floor double room with a balcony, at no extra cost. My laptop worked fine there, and the room was beautiful and had the same amenities. I’ll attach photos of both rooms. The included morning spread was a nice surprise: free coffee, fruit, milk, cereal, yogurt, pre-made rolls, and a few sweet cakes. Sorry, I forgot to take a picture of it all laid out. One difficulty for me was access. I wear a full knee brace, and going up the stairs without a railing meant I had only the wall to steady myself. Someone using a wheelchair or another mobility device wouldn’t have been able to access the Hotel. That’s also true of many other places I visited, but Germany is less accommodating for disabled people than is common in the US.

When a friend got ill, the staff were exceptionally helpful. We stayed in a suite with a large bathroom and kitchen area, the biggest room we had in Europe. The price, amenities, and location make it a perfect base for exploring the region by train. If you’re after a glitzy lobby and a huge breakfast buffet, this isn’t your place. For a good stay without spending too much, you’ll love it.

I slept really well in the great bed. The hotel is central but quiet and soundproof, with a luxurious bathroom, kitchenette, and a nice breakfast.
