Hotel Central Vis a Vis

This was easily the worst place we stayed during more than five weeks in Europe, especially compared with the otherwise great accommodations. Thankfully, it was only one night. The small, plain hotel is in an ugly spot near a major road junction, with rooms above a noisy restaurant facing the freeway. There was no air conditioning, which was a problem on a very hot day.

The restaurant and pizzeria were perfect for lunch or dinner, and the pizza and pasta were really yummy. The room was fresh, smelled nice, and was surprisingly clean. Everything seemed new. I stayed three days and knew when booking that the hotel was on an industrial estate, but I was pleasantly surprised by the place. The price matched the standard, in my opinion. There's no breakfast. I understand it may not be profitable with too few guests, though perhaps a coffee and tea station would be worth considering. The toilet brush is right by the hand towel hook, which feels unhygienic, and I'd change that. I'll stay at Vis a vis hotel again when I'm in Mainz.

The bar and restaurant downstairs had loads of choices, and we enjoyed sitting quietly upstairs on the terrace with a beer. Staff were friendly, and the rooms were clean with comfortable beds. With easy parking and quick access to the motorway, it's a handy overnight stop and good value.
