The area is absolutely beautiful. We’ve now had two holidays here, nine years apart, first in the Strandflieder house with our dog and this time in Strandhafer, also with our dog. The little garden at Strandflieder wasn’t an issue since we spent a lot of time outside. The harbor, meadow, and Zicker Hills are only a few minutes’ walk away, and the dog beach is a five-minute drive. The big garden behind the houses is lovely for the evening sun. The kitchens are practical and very well equipped, with no broken appliances. The dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer all worked perfectly. What bothered me most was how clean the houses were. As soon as we arrived, I put all the dishes we planned to use through the dishwasher. Cobwebs on many windows were black and clearly old. The upstairs shower was clogged, but Mr. Fischer, the friendly and competent manager, fixed it straight away. The lumpy feather pillows and blankets on every bed are a complete no-go for me and give me a terrible headache. It was different on our first stay, or I’d have brought my own pillow. The apartments are showing their age and need some updating. We’ve heard from others that the cleaning staff don’t speak German. This wasn’t our last holiday here, but it was our last with Kröning.

The area is really beautiful, but we definitely won’t stay at this accommodation again. Inside, everything felt much smaller than we expected, maybe only about a third of what we pictured. The gable is shown, but there are seven holiday apartments behind it. There are four rooms across three floors, and the stairs to the attic are far too steep for children. The windows and showers need a thorough clean. The black grime in the shower corners looks like it’s been there since at least 2021. It’s not as if Rügen is short of places to stay. We won’t be back, though others might.

The houses are lovely and well equipped, in a quiet village close to the water. There are plenty of places to walk and hike, and the town center with shops, gas, and other things is just a short way away. A perfect spot to unwind.

It’s a quiet holiday spot without crowds, good for kids and especially suited to hikers, swimmers, and cyclists. For bigger shopping trips, you’ll need to drive a bit farther.
