Äuchen am Rosenthal

The customer service was what upset me most. I left my iPhone charger behind, and when my husband called, the receptionist was negative and offensive before even checking the room. She said they'd charge a service fee on top of postage to send it back. I don't mind paying for the service, though I really doubt that 15€ fee is legitimate. What bothered me was being treated as if we'd made the story up and were idiots. People forget things, it happens. I decided to buy a new charger instead of dealing with this hotel. We stayed just one night at the start of the week. The price was okay, so I was glad to be there, but the room wasn't as nice as I'd imagined. The sound insulation was horrible. You could hear everything people did, and there was basically no privacy in the bathroom. The old water pipes also seemed to leak there, with so much water dripping that I had to put down a towel. The parking area was huge, but you had to pay extra. We saw that many hotels in the village were quite empty, so I guess competition is tough. In that situation, customer service is what makes the difference.

A spacious, well-run place with a great position right beside the river. Breakfast was excellent.

The extra charge from Äuchen am Rosenthal was higher than the Booking.com price we'd agreed on, even though that price was listed as including all taxes and charges. The apartment was very cold when we arrived because the heating was off. My mother had to wear a coat and hat indoors. WiFi was so weak that we had to use mobile data. The mattress was hard, and the pillow was hard and high, so I slept without one. There was only enough hot water for one shower. After that, the water stayed freezing cold for the rest of our stay, and my mother couldn't have a proper shower. The small water boiler seemed defective. The bathroom's wooden sliding door wouldn't stay closed and kept opening by about 12 cm, as shown in the picture. Gaps between the planks and a gap of around 5 cm underneath meant there was essentially no bathroom privacy. The shower drain and sink also seemed partly blocked.
