Haus Wunschlos

We had everything we needed in this really nice house in the middle of monschau. There were eight adults and two children in our group, and the owners were friendly.

The old house is beautiful, lovingly renovated and well equipped. We only got small towels, though, and none of us slept well. I don't think the bed was to blame. It felt more like the house's karma, as if it had seen a lot.

We were six and rented the "Wunschlos" (Wishless) house for a few days of cycling around the Eifel at the beginning of September. We felt very comfortable, and the place certainly lives up to its name. The bedrooms are cozy and each has its own style. There are bedrooms on three of the house's four floors, each with a large, well-equipped bathroom, so there’s room for everyone. The second floor has a spacious living area and a high-quality kitchen. The whole house is roomy, and its central spot in Monschau's old town puts restaurants and pubs within easy reach. Communication with the owners was pleasant and straightforward. We highly recommend it!

The biggest letdown was that the description mentioned a "fireplace for cozy winter evenings," but using it was forbidden. That’s completely unacceptable and takes away a lot of the property's value. There were other problems too. The staircase is interesting, but not suitable for seniors or people with disabilities, and that should be stated in the description. I’m 71 with a minor hip problem, and the handrail between the first and second floors couldn’t be reached at the top because it was screwed to the wall. The bathtub shower on the second floor had a small step to help with getting in and out, but really needed a grab bar for safety. We were given only two small towels per guest, which wasn’t enough for our eldest son, who is 1.90 metres tall. The front doorbell also didn’t work, so we had to call to get in. Those limitations came on top of an otherwise very impressive house. Our children treated the whole family to a weekend in Monschau from April 29th to May 1st, 2022, and we had four floors of the old town house to ourselves. The location on Kirchstraße was completely quiet at night, while the old town’s main street was only a few steps away. The furnishings were excellent, with five bedrooms, three bathrooms, TVs throughout, comfortable beds and tasteful details. The kitchen was exceptionally well equipped and stocked, with plenty of cups, glasses, pots and cutlery in excellent condition. It also had a dishwasher, microwave, freezer and fully automatic coffee machine.
