Hotel Schloss Montabaur

The hotel is modern and really pretty, though you don’t actually stay in the castle itself. It’s up on a hill, so I’d recommend bringing a car, and flat shoes are useful even for the walk to breakfast. There’s parking available. The pool was clean and nice, if a bit chilly for just hanging out, but good for swimming.

This was our second visit, and it was just as good as the first. We enjoyed the pool and sauna, which were clean and well managed, and the rooms are now cleaned daily. Staff were active, polite, and professional, and both check-in and checkout went smoothly. We had the buffet for breakfast and dinner. The setting was comfortable and elegant, and the food was delicious, well prepared, and offered lots of variety, really gourmet quality. All nonalcoholic drinks, including freshly pressed juices, were included. We’ll be back.

The setting is beautiful, the pool is great, and there’s an outlet nearby. Still, it’s too expensive for what you get, and this was probably our last visit. This was our second stay, and it was much worse than the first. Both breakfast and dinner were crowded, there weren’t enough tables, and sometimes we had to share. At dinner, we saw lots of green flies on the meat, which was disgusting, and the food options could be better. They charged 60 euros for our dog, yet didn’t clean the room during our stay because we had the dog. That’s 30 euros a night, much more than at other hotels. It feels like a business hotel, and maybe families get the rooms left over, since there seemed to be lots of business guests even at the weekend.

We had a romantic weekend and found a great deal that covered breakfast and dinner, with nonalcoholic drinks included too. They had gluten-free options, and the restaurant staff were kind and helpful about it. The service was excellent throughout, and both the rooms and spa area felt modern and sleek. We also had fun spending a few hours at the nearby outlets. A lovely place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.
