Holiday Inn Munich - City East

The room felt gross and overdue for updates. There was duct tape on the mirror, stains outside my door, and the shampoo bottle had just been filled with water. The air conditioning didn’t work, so the room was too hot, and the elevator was incredibly slow. Breakfast was hard to find, on the other side of the hotel down lots of hallways and stairs. The location was inconvenient too. I didn’t choose this hotel, but I’d never stay here again.

The location is handy, 13 minutes on foot from the train and 50 minutes from the airport. The hotel has the basics, including a kettle, fridge and safe. Breakfast was okay, and the fresh pastries straight from the oven were delicious, though some essentials like salt, marmalade or Nutella were sometimes missing. Staff weren’t very friendly, maybe it’s German. We found out there was no room service, and it wasn’t clear that there was a restaurant even though it says there is one. Rooms are cleaned every two days, good to know. The bed was okay but could be more comfortable, with thicker sheets. When we arrived, the man at the desk helped us get our keys, but someone was already in the room we were given. We called to complain and had to go all the way back to reception for another room. That’s a serious privacy and security problem.

The only slow part was check-in. After that, everything was perfect: the staff were kind and helpful, and the breakfast was a real bargain, especially the croissants and coffee. The location is good, not far from the center, and the large underground car park is easy to get from to the rooms. Parking is €19 a day.

Breakfast tasted good, but the choices were repetitive and the dining room was so crowded that finding an empty table was difficult. The staff weren’t very friendly either. Our room was too small to fit our luggage and move around comfortably. It wasn’t very clean, with rubbish under the sofa and an unpleasant smell in the bathroom.
