Hotel Mariahilf

We booked through Hotels.com using its confirmed “pay at property” option. The hotel later demanded full payment in advance. We offered a credit card, but they refused, and Hotels.com said its policy prevented payment through their system for this kind of reservation. They insisted on a bank transfer and threatened to cancel otherwise. We sent the money to the person they specified, the bank confirmed it went through, and we sent the hotel the receipt. Then they canceled the reservation and never refunded us. Be extremely cautious booking here. They took our money without providing a service, and this looks like a scam.

My room was beside the breakfast room, so I could hear every conversation, and the internet kept cutting out. I had booked a quiet double room several weeks ahead, but at Hotel Mariahilf in July I got a ground-floor room next to a footpath and busy road, with two single beds. The receptionist said there was nothing else available and wasn’t helpful. The bathroom was tiny, and I kept bumping my arms against the shower walls. Breakfast was included, but nobody told me, and there was no air conditioning. I had a very poor stay and wouldn’t recommend it.

It’s an old, family-run place in a great spot, and getting into the city is easy. They sent clear late check-in instructions by email, and it’s dog friendly, which was a big plus for us. The rooms were decent, though the wooden floor and bed creaked whenever we moved. We eventually switched from the double to the two single beds in the corner, which were much better.

The room was cleaned every day, even though I hadn’t asked for that on my short trip. It’s a quiet, slightly old-fashioned place, but well looked after, and the staff were very friendly. The bed was comfortable for one person, though it might be a little small for two. Wi-Fi worked fine, just note that it’s an open network with no encryption.
